I love being Temen’s mom. She is, without a doubt, the coolest baby I have ever met. She is happy, she is sassy, she is so much fun to be around… like, at least 70% of the time. The other 30% she’s a complete terrorist that regularly draws blood from pinching me while nursing, beats me with her fists wanting to nurse, or has a tantrum because I won’t let her chew on phone chargers. But, for today, let’s focus on that 70%.
Friday was one of our 70% days.
Spring has finally sprung in Minnesota, and we were able to go outside and enjoy each other, get some fresh air, and get away from that damn TV! (Seriously, as hard as I try, the girl loves TV. Send help.) We grabbed some easy-to-clean toys, a quilt, treats, and headed outside for our adventure.
It was nice to be outside again, away from electronics (okay, except my phone for pictures!) and other distractions. The only distraction was the grass, which she insisted on eating despite my pleas not to. Apparently ten month old babies don’t yet understand “you can touch but you can’t eat”. But, I keep trying.
Feeling something new, the grass, was so exciting to her. That’s one of the things I like about being a mother. There are a lot of things to hate about being a mom, but this isn’t one. I love watching her discover all of these things with wild enthusiasm.
IS THAT A TABLESPOON, MOM?! LET ME SEE IT. LET ME SEE IT. I WANT TO PLAY WITH IT. LET ME SEE IT. I WANT IT RIGHT NOW. OH MY GOD. HOLY MOLY. OH MY GOD!
It’s amazing. I don’t look at anything like that anymore. (Unless it’s a hot guy, delicious pastry, sushi, or the beautiful Greater Minnesota, but that is it!) I wonder when we lose that, and hope I can find a way to delay that for as long as possible for her. It’s why I love bringing her to new places to see new faces and new things. You should’ve seen her when we went to the Mall of America and she saw Nickelodeon Camp Snoopy. It was amazing to her. All the rides, the people, the giant cartoons, and even the rafters and piping on the ceiling. Her face was lit up. Mine only was after seeing hers. So, I guess add that to the list of things I look at with wild enthusiasm, right behind a delicious pastry of course.
I have three weeks left to spend my entire day showing and teaching her new things. It’s not enough time, but (again) I’m committed to making the most out of it. Spending time in sunshine, at new places, seeing new people, feeling new things. For her.
Spring has sprung.
xxoo,
Samm
