Easter! I love Easter. Easter is the holiest of the days and I’m not just saying that because Cadbury Eggs are my religion. But, for the record, they are.
It’s the colors, the candy, the bunnies and flowers, the weather, the food, the sunshine, all of it. But again, mostly the Cadbury Eggs. Never mind the fact that my entire religion is based upon this one day, like, we all get it – Easter is awesome. It’s so awesome that, yeah, I’m a week late but I’m still here writing about it.
I feel like every holiday continues to be Temen’s “first” because she’s experiencing it in a whole new way each year. Temen played the part of a well dressed potato during her entire first year and a half of life. So while she has had an Easter before this one, it feels new again. It feels like her first Easter all over again.
As you can see, she’s still well dressed, but just a little less potato’y.
So we started our day by going out to brunch with my stepdad. First of all, I need to say that I offered to make brunch and he declined. Second of all, he’s genius because brunch was delicious and I wasn’t left with dishes to clean afterwards. Genius, I tell you.
Temen is still at that age (for her) when eating out can be a challenge. Adults can wait. We talk, we drink, we wait. A twenty-two month old? Not so much. She sits down and thinks, okay, I’m sitting down so where is my food? Why isn’t it waiting for me? Usually it’s waiting for me. So sometimes we placate her by feeding her just a little, and then her food comes and she’s not hungry so while we should be eating we are walking her around, trying to calm her down. We’ve obviously got this whole parenting thing down.
But Easter brunch was different. It was buffet style so we were able to keep food coming, and as it turns out Sesame Street on the phone is a great distraction. Yes, I let the screen parent my child while I threw back a few mimosas and enjoyed my Easter brunch with family. So sue me.
And then we were off. First for a nap, and then for an egg hunt and dinner.
Egg hunts are an Easter tradition but, being that Temen is not even two years old, that presented challenges. If we leave her in the yard looking for treats she’d just come back to us with dog poop and pinecones, let’s be real. So to make it as easy as possible we headed to Party City and got some balloons to tie around each egg. This way, she see’s the balloon and knows where to go.
Apparently there’s some serious helium shortage so they could only blow up six balloons. (Side note: The helium thing is an actual problem. When the woman told me there was a shortage, I assumed it was just that store. Then she mentioned Dollar Tree isn’t doing balloons at all anymore, and not all Party City’s have helium because medical suppliers take priority because MRI machines require helium. I’m sorry, what?) We got the balloons on Saturday and come Sunday the little helium in each balloon had basically disappeared. It made for less interesting photos, but they still accomplished our goal of making it easier for Temen to find the eggs.
Anyways, the balloons were a hit. They led her exactly where she needed to go and, what can I say, the girl loves balloons. She also loves cookies and cheddar bunnies, which were hidden inside each egg. That helped.
That was our Easter 2019. I suppose it was more so Temen’s Easter 2019, but whatever. Also, I promise I was there. I was the one behind the camera. Temen will see these when she’s older and wonder if I actually existed during her childhood, but I promise I’m here.
xxoo,
Samm
